On Thursday, March 19th, 2009, MOMS Orange County welcomed more than 150 guests to the Grand Opening Celebration of its new home in Santa Ana.  The celebration was an opportunity for MOMS Orange County to welcome and extend its appreciation to community partners who have supported the establishment of its home as a resource center for pregnant women and their families.

MOMS Orange County recognized the generous support of St. Joseph Health System, Western National, Alexander’s Mobility Services, the Orange County Community Foundation’s Margaret E. Oser Fund for Women and Disneyland Resort.  Additionally, visitors learned more about MOMS Orange County’s services through self-guided tours of the new space.

The new facility is at 1128 West Santa Ana Blvd, in the heart of Santa Ana and allows MOMS Orange County to establish a more permanent and visible presence in the community it serves. Located on a major bus route, the 14,000 square foot facility will establish a stronger neighborhood presence and enhance MOMS Orange County’s ability to increase access to maternal-child health care support and health education for low-income mothers.

“We are excited to be in the city of Santa Ana where many of our clients reside and to be their neighbors,” says Pamela Pimentel, CEO of MOMS Orange County.  “The building anchors us to our community, representing in bricks and mortar our commitment to this community.  We hope our new building sends a message that MOMS Orange County is here to stay and in it for the long run.”

In addition to the prenatal and postpartum education classes offered throughout the county, MOMS Orange County now holds classes at its new Margaret E. Oser Health Education Center.  This now provides access to multiple services at a centrally located site.  Other features of the new facility include: Private interview rooms to conduct confidential client health screenings; space for couples to practice breathing and relaxation techniques in Childbirth Preparation classes; Comfortable and quiet rooms for breastfeeding education, support and resources; healing environment for support group sessions; appropriate child-friendly space for Mommy & Me infant developmental play activities; and a creative learning environment in the Disneyland Resort Beach Bash Children’s Playroom.

The facility also allows MOMS Orange County to offer space for meetings, workshops, and community events to its service partners – including Orange County Breastfeeding Coalition, Orange County Perinatal Council, Sweet Success Pregnancy & Diabetes Program, Children & Families Commission of Orange County, National Children’s Study, March of Dimes, and Healthy Smiles for Kids of Orange County.  This allows MOMS to serve as a central site for maternal-child health resources and community collaboration.
