MOMS Orange County is pleased to announce the re-appointment of Julianne Stoody Toohey, MD to its Board of Directors.  Dr. Toohey has played an instrumental role in the development of MOMS Orange County and has helped it become a leader in the area of maternal child health in Orange County.

Dr. Julianne Toohey is board certified in both Obstetrics and Gynecology and Maternal Fetal Medicine and currently serves as the Associate Clinical Professor and OB/GYN Clerkship Director for third year medical students for the Medical School at the University of California, Irvine.  In addition to her seat at MOMS Orange County, Dr. Toohey is also on the Board of Directors of the Orange County Perinatal Council, Human Options Strategic Planning and Marketing Committee, and the American Cancer Society – Orange County Chapter.  She is also actively involved with a range of community organizations such as the Orange County Family Violence Council, Southern California Medical Training Center, and March of Dimes of Orange County, among others.

With fluency in both English and Spanish, Dr. Toohey has appeared on various Spanish-language radio programs and TV, serving as an expert and educator on a range of medical topics, including contraception, prenatal care, diabetes, cancer prevention and cancer screening.

“Dr. Toohey has an amazing capacity to care for our communities,” says Pam Pimental, RN, CEO of MOMS Orange County. “She’s fluent in Spanish and her knowledge of different cultures gives patients the special care and respect they appreciate.”

Dr. Toohey’s passion for and advocacy of women’s health is remarkable, and she is well-published and has spoken widely to educate healthcare providers and the community at large about domestic violence.  Dr. Toohey has led MOMS Orange County’s staff towards a deeper understanding of domestic violence through in-service trainings and development as well as serving as a resource to MOMS Orange County’s Maternal Child Health Coordinators.
