MOMS Orange County received a $30,000 grant award from George Hoag Family Foundation to support its core programs and services.  The funds provided by the grant will go towards MOMS Maternal-Child Health Coordination services which provide access to prenatal care, health screenings, health education and referral services to 5,000 mothers and babies each year.

“MOMS Orange County has proven success in the area of community health and we believe in their mission to help families have healthy babies,” said Charles Smith, George Hoag Family Foundation Executive Director. “We are pleased to support their work to better the health of mothers and their babies and, subsequently, the quality of life of the community.”

Through monthly home visits, MOMS Orange County clients receive one-on-one education and support during pregnancy and through the baby’s first birthday.  Major components of the program include: Maternal Health Screenings & Education; Pregnancy & Diabetes Care Coordination; Breastfeeding Education & Support; Infant Health & Developmental Screenings; and Referral Services.  In 2008, MOMS Orange County introduced VietMOMS, a culturally-adapted model of Maternal-Child Health Coordination for low-income Vietnamese families.

MOMS Orange County has been recognized by the Health Care Agency of Orange County, the Children & Families Commission of Orange County, the California Department of Health Services, and the United States Congress for its innovative work in the community and impact on the health of women and babies in Orange County.
