Angelica shared her story at the 2026 Breastfeeding Celebration
Hello, my name is Angela, and I would like to share a little about my experience with my twin pregnancy, and the impact and support that MOMS and every person who works there have provided me.
I have a beautiful 4-year-old daughter who, in fact, attended Ms. Gaby’s Mommy and Me class from the time she was 3 months old. It was wonderful to see how much the class helped my daughter develop socially and how it helped me understand each stage of her growth. Thanks to the support of Ms. Gaby, Mrs. Marta, and Mrs. Nancy, who was my social worker at the time, my experience with my first daughter was truly beautiful.
My daughter is a very happy little girl, but suddenly she began insisting that she wanted a sibling. My husband and I decided to try for another baby, but after more than a year of trying, I still wasn’t getting pregnant. There were many prayers and requests for God to bless me with a baby.
After so much praying, the miracle finally happened. It was January 2025 when I found out I was pregnant. My heart was racing with excitement as I planned the sweetest way to tell my daughter that her prayers had come true, but I decided to wait a little longer.
I began my prenatal checkups, and during the first ultrasound, the doctor could not see an embryo. She scheduled another appointment four weeks later to give the baby time to grow so that it could be seen more clearly and to determine how far along the pregnancy was.
During the second week of February, something happened that every mother fears. I began having heavy bleeding and decided to go to the emergency room. With my heart in my hands and praying to God that I had not lost my baby, we arrived at the hospital.
After many long hours of waiting, I was finally taken in for a vaginal ultrasound. While the nurse was performing the exam, tears filled my eyes. I felt the weight of believing that perhaps my baby was no longer there. I had already lost so much blood.
The nurse looked me in the eyes, and I will never forget what she said:
“Don’t worry. Everything is going to be okay. Not only is one baby okay, but both babies are okay.”
I sat in silence for a few moments. I could not believe it. The shock was overwhelming. Not because there were twins, but because, at that very moment, I had been praying to God for comfort so I could cope with my loss, and instead, God gave me the opposite. Two beautiful babies were growing inside me.
I left the ultrasound room where my husband was waiting. I told him what had happened while we waited for the doctor to review the ultrasound results. When the doctor arrived, he confirmed that I had originally been carrying three babies, but I had lost one, and only two had continued developing.
At that moment, I don’t even know how to explain what I felt: confusion, joy, sadness, and so much anxiety.
I was told to stay home from work for a week. When I returned, I remember it was a Sunday. I work as a waitress, and the restaurant was very busy. I was focused on my work as usual when suddenly I felt like I had urinated on myself. I ran to the bathroom and realized the bleeding had returned.
I went home heartbroken and decided to rest because I had an appointment with my gynecologist the next day.
When I met with my doctor, I explained everything that had happened. She reviewed the hospital report and explained that the bleeding was occurring because the babies had caused a tear in my uterus, resulting in a hemorrhage that would take time to heal.
That was when she told me I could no longer work and that if I wanted my babies to survive and be born, I would need complete bed rest.
This was incredibly difficult for me. After being such an active woman, it was not easy to suddenly be confined to a bed. Knowing that any movement could jeopardize my pregnancy made those first three months extremely difficult and full of uncertainty.
I fell into a depression I could not explain. I carried a deep sadness in my heart, knowing I could lose my babies. The bleeding did not stop, and every day I felt more alone lying in bed, watching my 4-year-old daughter ask me to play with her while I was unable to do so.
When I reached five months of pregnancy, I remembered that I needed to apply to MOMS because they offered many programs that could help me. Honestly, I didn’t feel like talking to anyone, but I decided to call and enroll.
The enrollment process was simple and easy. Everyone treated me with kindness. The wait was very short, and I was assigned a social worker who would visit me. Her name was Mari.
From the very beginning, Mari helped me tremendously with her words of encouragement. She always seemed to know exactly what to say and what to do in every situation. She provided information about many resources that were incredibly helpful, and she personally enrolled me in Marta’s breastfeeding and healthy women classes.
For me, Marta has been a wonderful person. She always showed deep empathy for everything I was going through. She gave me so much confidence to talk openly about my doubts and fears. I will never forget that she became a safe place for me. With her, I cried, laughed, learned, and began to see my future as a mother of twins in a completely different way.
She has no idea how positive and lasting the impact she made has been on my life, the lives of my daughters, and my entire family.
I still remember the day I came home from the hospital. As soon as I arrived, I sent her a simple message:
“Hi Marta, I just wanted to let you know that I’ve had my daughters and I’m finally home. I would appreciate some help with breastfeeding and helping them latch.”
Her response was:
“Tomorrow morning, I’ll be there.”
And she was. The very next morning, there she was, a strong and caring woman, offering support and so much love to me and my baby girls. Thanks to her, my babies were able to successfully breastfeed.
Since then, Marta and Mari have continued guiding me through every stage of my babies’ development.
One of my daughters is particularly fragile medically, and we’ve faced many challenges with her growth and developmental delays. Because they were born prematurely, she requires extra care. Through the MOMS programs, I have continually found resources and support for my daughters.
When my twins turned three months old, I didn’t hesitate to enroll again in Ms. Gaby’s Mommy and Me class. I have now been attending for three months, and I can honestly say that class is a place where every mother and every baby feels at home.
Ms. Gaby provides us with the tools and space to express ourselves and discuss our concerns about our babies. We dance, sing, do activities, and while our babies benefit from the experience, we mothers also get a chance to relax and relieve stress.
I am very happy to be part of the MOMS program, and above all, I am deeply grateful to every person who takes the time to visit us and make us feel that someone truly cares about us.
